hi guys, i'm thinking of buying a new mid range gpu for around £60-80 tops and so far i've been advised to get either Gigabyte GeForce GT 240 600Mhz 1G or the 220 equivalent. The 240 has a core speed 100mhz slower than the 220, but is more expensive, what do you guys think could be the major reason for this, does core clock speed really matter here, coz it doesnt look like it .

i'd much rather go nvidia atm

They are both nvidia cards, the 220 does seem better though it doesn't tell us what the 240 memory clock speed is.

The stream processors make a LARGE difference :)

Imagine the difference in performance between a single core processor and a dual core, or even a quad as this is not a direct comparison to processors. The 240 is far superior as a card, however, if you can find an NVidia 9600GT, like the one being sold by Skull on this forum, it's a better card than the 240 but for the same price.

I would go for none of them as my mate has the GT240 and it a rubbish card for games too slow frame rate un playable on alot of games I would go for the ATI 4850 1gig awesome card it will play all games at a good fps aswell but if your not wanting it for games then go green
